Acadiana Veteran Alliance (AVA) announced Millicent Canter Nugent has been named Executive Director of the non-profit organization devoted to veteran-focused initiatives in economic development, work placement, and efficacy-based treatments for PTS (post-traumatic stress).
Nugent, formerly the Director of Investor Relations with One Acadiana, has spent the last 13 years working successfully in Lafayette Parish government and economic development organizations. In her most recent role, she was tasked with the execution of investor retention efforts, implementation of engagement strategy and protocols, and management of all investor accounts. Nugent is also currently the President of the UL Lafayette Young Alumni Chapter, President of Kappa Delta sorority Alumnae Board, and a member of the Junior League of Lafayette.
an organization that consists of a dedicated Advisory Board and committed “Alliance Members”,” said Nugent. “My goal in leading this organization is to build on the tremendous momentum of the past year through consistent support to our veteran community through work placement, mental health solutions, and improve the overall quality of life for those who dedicated their lives and served our country proudly.”
Nugent’s hiring comes as AVA has begun its implementation of strategic growth in grant programs, development, and outreach in the veteran-owned business community and building on the successes of a groundbreaking first year with legislative advances for Louisiana veterans.
Specifically, AVA has seen tremendous development in its “Work” program, centered around using the veteran and transitioning military base as an engine for economic development in both the region and state.
Acadiana Veteran Alliance was formed to build new economic development and industry WITH veterans, and fund PTSD healthcare treatments FOR veterans.
