Notable policy victories include expanding Louisiana’s property tax exemption for service-disabled veterans, allowing veterans with qualifying VA disability ratings to receive increased relief on their primary residence, and advancing legislation that provides discounted hunting and fishing licenses for veterans, improving access to Louisiana’s outdoor traditions and recreational opportunities.

Legislative Impact & Policy Wins
Expanded Property Tax Relief for Disabled Veterans
AVA helped advance Louisiana Constitutional Amendment No. 2 (Act 172 of 2022 / HB 599), expanding the homestead property tax exemption available to veterans with service-connected disabilities. Approved by Louisiana voters, this measure increased tax relief for qualifying veterans on their primary residence—helping reduce financial burdens and making it easier for those who served to build and remain rooted in Louisiana communities.
Discounted Hunting & Fishing Licenses for Veterans
AVA supported legislation that made Louisiana’s outdoor traditions more accessible to honorably discharged veteran residents through a discounted Hunt/Fish Combo License. This benefit gives eligible veterans a more affordable way to enjoy hunting, fishing, and time outdoors—recognizing their service while expanding access to the recreational opportunities Louisiana is known for.
